CDT Manufacturing Process
CDT Elite Series Carbon Fiber by CDT is light, strong and flexible. They manufacture using the same raw materials and production processes as MotoGP, World Superbike, Ducati Factory and Formula 1 bodywork.
CDT Carbon Fiber begins with pre-pregnated carbon fiber ("pre-preg carbon") which is carbon fiber fabric that is saturated with a precise amount of epoxy resin and must be carefully stored in sub-zero temperatures. Pre-preg carbon is stronger, lighter and more consistent than non-pre-preg carbon fabric (which has resin applied during the production process). To create bodywork, the pre-preg carbon is vacuum-bagged, autoclaved and clear-coated. The vacuum-bagging process uses suction to make the pre-preg carbon conform exactly to the shape of a part mold. The molded part is placed in an autoclave (think of it as an industrial strength pressure cooker) and subjected to carefully calibrated heat and pressure to cure the part. The end result is a perfectly shaped carbon fiber part that uses an absolutely minimal amount of epoxy resin yet is superior to any other carbon fiber piece.
Finally, the part needs to be given a perfect finish. The part is magnetized, sprayed with clear-coat powder pellets and baked in oven. This causes the powder pellets to melt and penetrate the carbon fiber, allowing for a deep, smooth, pit-free, super-shiny finish.
